Shortcut to Fabulous Jewelry every month

shoppingSome of my coworkers belong to a “Shoe of the Month Club,” ShoeDazzle. I just can’t get into it because I think that $39.99 per month for a pair of sub-par quality, cheap shoes seems like a rip-off when you can find a pair of Kate Spades or DaniBlacks at Neiman Marcus Last Call Outlets for about the same price when they have extra 20% off sales. However, I always get a little envious when the selections come out for the month from ShoeDazzle and all the ladies are picking out their shoes or deciding to pass for the month. Let’s face it…the concept of an accessories of the month club is genius!

A friend just emailed me about a new jewelry of the month club, Jewel Mint. What could be better than jewelry at your doorstep every month! Oh and the best part…one of the co-founders is Kate Bosworth! For just $29.95 per month, JewelMint offers exclusive jewelry through their website that they claim would cost well over $100 in a boutique. As a JewelMint member, you’ll also get style tips from Cher (Kate’s partner and co-founder), regular trend reports, and lots of opportunities to give them ideas and feedback so that they can get to know your style and tailor your perfect collection. You take a quiz to determine your style and then they give you selections of jewelry to chose from. If you don’t like the jewelry they have selected for you, you can select the “Show me More” button and get more selections. If you want to skip for the month, you just need to skip the month by the 5th of the month. Oh and shipping in FREE! Yay! Somehow $29.99 for jewelry seems like such a better deal than $39.99 for shoes!

So, sign up for a free trial and enjoy this shortcut to fabulous jewelry every month.

Shortcut to Fabulous Affordable Shopping in Paris!

IMG_2169A recent trip to Paris with the alleged ultimate Paris shopping guide made me realize that no one researches to find shopping haunts for real people, with real salaries! So, we scoured grand Paris and found some fun, affordable and chic shopportunities. Bookmark this post and print it out the next time you head to Paris.

- Monoprix is the closest thing France has to Target. There is a Monoprix in every arrondissement in Paris, but our favorite is the one close to the Louvre on the corner of Avenue de l’Opéra and Rue des Pyramides (metro: Pyramides). They have a grocery and prepared food section. So, this is the perfect place to shop, buy a pre-made baguette sandwich, some chips and a drink, walk down Pyramides to the Tuileries garden and have a fabulous picnic lunch. (more about that below!)
Here is a sampling of some of the goodies we found at Monoprix:

  • Great selection of tights starting at 7.90 Euros. Look for brand the Le Bourget for exquisite high fashion tights…a bit of a splurge at 19.90 Euros, but totally worth it.
  • Maison Verte Thym-Basilic dish washing liquid. It’s a “green” product and will fill the kitchen with the scent of fresh cut herbs every time you do the dishes.
  • Body Bar Soap-2.39 Euros for le petite olivier.
  • Baby buys in monoprix- look for brand bout choux….adorable shirts, scarves, hats starting at about 7 Euro. Set of two onesies for 10.90 Euros.
  • For the kiddie in your life-coloring books; 4- 6 euros
  • Clothes, Jewelry scarves and more- They have a cute selection of clothes, accessories, jewelry and scarves as well as a huge selection of make up and French brands including Borjois and more!
  • Food items- Monoprix has everything from fois gras to teas and chocolates. The Monoprix on Avenue de l’Opéra has a great selection of fauchon chocolates and gourmet mustards that make great gifts. Check out the teas in the grocery section in the basement. My favorite is the Monoprix brand fruit de rouge tea…this makes a great gift under 3 Euro!
  • The Monoprix on rue de l’opera has a grocery section on the ground floor ad basement as well as a prepared food section. The sandwiches in the prepared section are delicious and cheap!!! My favorite is the Le Parisian which has ham, butter and cornichon pickles for 2.70 Euros. That is about 3 US dollars! I recommend going to the basement level and getting a fresh piece of fruit, a small bag of Monoprix brand tortillas (like Doritos but better…I like the gout chili flavor….it is not spicy at all!!!) and a drink. Then take your lunch to the beautiful park at the Louvre (about a five minute walk away…take a right out of the Monoprix and then the first right onto Rue des Pyramides, take it straight down to park). On a sunny day around lunchtime (I go between 1 and 2 pm), you will see young Parisians picnicing on their lunch break right next to you. Look for the people dressed in suits and professional attire. You will likely see many paper McDonalds bags, as there is one right around the corner that Parisians who work in the area frequent for their picnic lunch. Relax, enjoy your lunch and people watch….soak in the French lifestyle…and relish the fact that you are eating a fabulous lunch in Paris for under $10!

For a decent selection of cheap ties and inexpensive silk scarves check out Reflets de France: 5, Rue des Pyramides (metro: Pyramides)

For fun, fashionable and affordable jewelry and accessories shop the French accessories designer, Cecile Jeanne: Multiple locations including one in Charles De Gaulle Airport. Our favorite is at Carrousel du Louvre (metro: Palais du Louvre)

Check back soon for more fabulous Parisian food finds as well as things to do on the cheap….oh and we have other cities too!!!
