Shortcut to Fabulous Skin

GG_Box_Jar_web-1I am obsessed with keeping my skin looking at youthful as possible. I have a fabulous dermatologist on speed dial and she helps keep my skin in order with chemical peels twice a year. For the in-between maintenance, I try to hit the spa for facials and microdermabrasion treatments, but my addiction to clothes and shoes often leaves me with an empty pocketbook and no money for a spa session. So, what is a girl to do?! Find a great mask that she can use at home!

My mask of choice…GLAMGLOW Mud Mask. This mask has caught the eye of celebs and power players with great skin. I tried this mask out in the second half of last year and fell in  L-O-V-E. It does not have a drugstore price tag at $69.00 for a jar, but it has luxury spa and salon quality ingredients that make it well worth the price tag. Plus, a jar will last a long time and you will love the way the mask makes your skin feel and look. It clears your pores and makes your skin feel smooth and radiant. The smell is heavenly and it makes you feel luxurious every time you use it. It has volcanic rock and French sea clay in in…oh la la…what more do you need! You can find that mask at Bliss stores and by clicking here.  Buy a jar for yourself and a jar for your gift closet!

Shortcut to Fabulous Party Planning….Themed Parties!

DSCN0223Planning a party around a theme makes decision making easy. However, deciding on a theme and then finding affordable decor to fit the theme can be a challenge. Here are some tips we have for finding decor to fit your theme:

  • Think outside the box. When you choose a theme, understand that not all of the decor has to center around the theme. Choose a theme with a strong color scheme and get a few items to fit the theme and then focus on sticking with the color scheme. See how we found a few items to fit in with the mod whale theme baby shower photographed here. We found a few whale items (ceramic whales from the dollar bin at Target, stuffed whales from the $1 store and whale stickers from the Invitation Box to go on the favor boxes). The rest of the items fit in with the aqua blue and orange color scheme.
  • Choose a theme and color scheme far in advance and look for items that will work with the theme everywhere you go, grocery stores, drug stores, Target, etc.DSCN0227
  • Check out your local $1 stores for items as well as Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Ross Stores. Junk stores like Big Lots can be party gold mines.
  • Look for inexpensive candle holders to fit your color scheme at dollar, thrift and junk shops.
  • Find sheets that fit in with your color scheme and/or theme and use those in place of a table cloth. (I love Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Ross for sheets…the polka dot sheets seen in this photo are from a twin sheet set purchased as Marshalls for $19.99).DSCN0252

  • Use paper cut out shapes in lieu of a table cloth for a cheap and easy way to add pizazz to party decor. Buy scrap booking paper at your local craft store (Michaels periodically has patterned and solid color scrap booking paper on sale 4 sheets for $1) and then find a template or pattern by entering the shape you are looking for and the words “shape template” or “free stencil” in the Google search term box. When you find a shape you like print it out and use it as a stencil to cut out shapes from the craft paper your purchased. Then place the shapes on tables as part of a table scape backdrop. See how we used the whale cut-outs we created to jazz up tables for our mod whale themed baby shower.
  • Check out sites like or to find inexpensive party decor.

So, when planning your next themed event pick a theme several months in advance and then keep your eyes open for decor items everywhere you turn and enjoy these shortcuts to fabulous party planning!

Shortcut to Fabulous Career Looks!

career imagesLooking good at work and everyday when out and about is important because you never know who you will run into in the office or on your lunch break…it could be the person who can give you your next great job! Sometimes it is hard to pull of a polished look when you’ve hit the snooze button a few too many times, but I have some no-fail tips to keep you looking put together and polished every day:

  • Have a few outfits on reserve that you can throw on in a pinch when you wake up late and don’t have time to shave your legs! Think of outfits with pants and tights that you can pair with simple tops for a polished look.
  • Perfect the five minute make-up routine. Mine consists of moisturizer with sunscreen, under-eye and blemish concealer, foundation, creme blush, eyeliner (on top lid only), lipliner and gloss. Click here and here for some tutorials on five minute make up routines on You Tube.
  • Don’t forget the accessories. Have some simple silver and gold ball and pearl earrings on hand for those days when you don’t have time to find the perfect accessory.
  • Develop a five minute hair routine. When I am in a rush, I put my hair half up and use a flat iron to smooth my hair. If you don’t have a five minute hair routine, call your local beauty school and see if you can make an appointment for a tutorial at the training salon.
  • Make sure your handbag and shoes coordinate with your outfit. I keep everything I need in my handbag in a cosmetic bag that I can easily remove and put inside another handbag, so changing purses is easy.
