Shortcut to Fabulous Five things I am Crushing on for Summer

apple kissHere are five things I am in L-O-V-E with right now in no particular order:

1. Smart Water and Crystal Light On The Go Hunger Satisfaction, Strawberry Banana On the Go Drink Mix Packets- As the temperature rises this summer, so does my thirst for beverages that keep me hydrated and keep my taste buds happy. There is something magical about the combination of smart water with its chic bottle and electrolytes combined with Crystal Light’s hunger satisfaction flavor packets. Somehow the Smart Water gives the strawberry banana flavor and extra kick and it may be all in my head, but I do feel like the afternoon munchies disappear when I make myself a little afternoon beverage…and if you pretend there’s a little vodka splashed in it makes the work day go by just a little bit faster! Another fav or mine…Crystal Light Skin Essentials, White Peach Tea Flavor Packet. One tip with these flavor packets. Try using less than a full packet to find the taste and flavor strength that works for you!bun maker

2. Conair Bun Maker $3.49 When the weather starts to get hot and sticky, I am looking for easy ways to combat the havoc that the humidity wreaks on my hair. I bought a Conair bun maker at my local Ulta Beauty about a month ago and it has changed my life and put an end to the bad hair days! I found the same bun maker on Amazon for under $4…a real steal (it was $6.99 at Ulta and Walgreens). The bun maker is a donut shaped item that feels and kind of looks like a softer version of steel wool. You put your hair in a pony tail, put the bun maker around it and then smooth your hair over it and pin it in. The kit comes with three pins, but you will need a ton more pins to pin the loose pieces of hair into the bun maker.  With the bun maker you get a nice full, chic bun in under 15 minutes! creme de blush

3. Yves Saint Laurent Creme de Blush with Laura Geller Baked Blush-N-Brighten in Como. The thing I hate the most about summer is feeling my make up melt off before I even step inside my office. Going to the powder room in the afternoon is downright depressing as you see a melted face staring back at you in the mirror. I combat the make-up melt down by layering my make up in the summer months. Blush is my favorite item to layer and layering YSL’s creme de blush with Laura Gellar’s blush gives you the best summer glow ever! This is one of the best make up combinations I have ever discovered. Since I started using this combo about three weeks ago, I have gotten no less than ten compliments from women specifically on my blush color…at my dermatologist’s offices, one of my best girlfriends, my secretary…and the list goes on. The best part: this blush combo lasts all day long even on the days when the thermometer has hit 90+! I layer YSL creme de blush in powdery rose and Lara Gellar baked blush in Como.

4. Kindle 3G, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 3G Works Globally, Graphite, 6″ Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology. While we wait for the rest of Bravo’s summer line up to start, I have been spending my evenings curled up with my Kindle. Now I know some of you are thinking, “Why get a Kindle when I can get an Ipad 2?” Nothing mimics a real book reading experience like the Kindle. The Ipad is backlit, so if you feel like reading a novel from a vertical rectangular computer screen, be my guest. The Kindle is light weight, looks like a real book page, affordable and allows you to download books for free from anywhere in the world and is cheaper!

5. Fiber One 50 calorie Strawberry yogurt with a bit of Bear Naked Granola for some crunch. OMG this yogurt is so yummy and really fills me up. It is amazing. I have been eating this as a snack and for about 100 calories total, my afternoon munchies are put to rest. I really credit this combo with keeping my figure bikini ready…or at least as bikini ready as possible when you are not Heidi Klum.pfd_yogurts-1

Shortcut to Fabulous Website for All the New College Grads Who are Freaking out!

career imagesI just attended a college graduation this weekend and I was reminded of all of the angst and anxiety that comes along with the diploma. As I was looking down at all of the young, fresh faces at Northwestern’s graduation, I wondered how many of these bright, young students with an enviable diploma were still looking for work. My guess is, a lot! I remember wondering on graduation day if I would ever have enough money to afford the essentials…you know….rent, food, shoes. I graduated during the last economic downturn, and I remember how many of my classmates did not have jobs on graduation day. Graduating from college in a good economy is scary enough, but in a bad it can be downright depressing! Well, I found the perfect website for all of these young grads. It is a blog called Ramen Noodles, Rent and Resumes. Kristen Fischer is a freelance writer who brilliantly blogs on career advice. Everything from moving home after graduation day to profiles of newbies to the workforce. If you know a recent college grad, do them a favor and send them a link to Ramen, Noodles, Rent and Resumes.

Shortcut to Fabulous Chip Face-off

3bagsPotato Flyers vs. Popchips! Those of you who have been reading for awhile know I loves me some popchips. In fact, I love them so much I order the snack sized bags in bulk from Amazon. Click here to get your own! In my attempt to slim down for the summer, I let my popchip inventory dwindle and I was left today with a huge crunch craving and no popchips. I went to my local organic grocer to grab some lunch and saw Pirate’s Booty Potato Flyers on the shelf next to my beloved Popchips. They were on sale, so I figured I would give them a try and see how they stack up. Note, I am comparing the original flavor of both. Calorie wise they are equals. One serving of Potato Flyers has 120 calories, 5 grams of fat, 18 grams of carbs and 1 gram of protein. One serving of popchips has 120 calories, 4 grams of fat, 20 grams of carbs, 1 gram of fiber and 1 gram of protein.  Both are 3 Weight Watchers Plus points per serving. So probably about equal from a health stats standpoint. Both way better for your figure than a regular chip.

Now on the the chip itself. The flyer chip looks very similar to the popchip. However, popchips are air-popped using some fancy51r7XLeqQQL._SL250_ technology. Flyer chips are baked. Popchips are lighter and crispier than the flyer chip. The flyer chip is more dense and crunchy than the popchip. Personally I like the lighter crispier texture of the popchip. The popchip has the perfect crisp and crunch and then sort of melts in your mouth, but not in a mushy way…more in a savor the flavor kind of way. I also found the flyer chip to be saltier than the popchip. The flyer chip had an aftertaste that I was not loving. Overall, I would get the flyer chip if the popchip weren’t around, but I given a choice, I choose to chomp on the popchip over the flyer chip.

Shortcut to Fabulous Fair Trade Shea

S166 - Shea & Green Tea Revitalizing Body LotionDid you know that Shea butter is a product that can lift and empower women in Arica?! However, most shea butter on the market in the United States and Europe is not fairly traded. Without fair trade, the women who gather shea nuts and hand craft this remarkable oil receive only a tiny fraction of the final price. One company is make sure the women who produce this product get their fair share of the profit for their hard work and labor. This company happens to produce one of my favorite products ever, Shea & Green Tea Revitalizing Lotion. It has certified Fair Trade unrefined shea butter, green tea and arnica and West African neem. You probably know how great shea butter is for locking in moisture, but the green tea and arnica helps make your skin fabulous. You can purchase the lotion at their website by clicking here. To find a store near you that sells the product, click here. I get mine a my local Whole Foods.

Fun Fact from the Allaffia Website: It is estimated to take 20 to 30 hours of labor to produce one kilogram of handcrafted shea butter, which is traded at $1 or less in today’s market. A woman making shea butter in West Africa will receive only a fraction of this price. Therefore, a person working for 30 hours, almost a week’s worth of work, will not receive even a dollar for her efforts. Even if she received the whole dollar, this does not even begin to reach living wage standards.
