Miami Monday….Shortcut to Fabulous Thursday Night Flick

Flickin’ Summer Movies: “The Breakfast Club”

The beautiful, historic Gusman Theater in downtown Miami has brought back the “Flickin’ Summer” movie series for a third season. This is the next movie of the showcase which will be followed by an onstage dance party with DJ MR PAUER. At only $10 per ticket, it’s a cool way to spend a hot summer night! It plays this Thursday, August 25, 2011.

Flickin’ Summer 2011 continues with The Breakfast Club, the classic 1985 comedy-drama from director John Hughes. Five high school students, all different stereotypes, meet in detention, where they pour their hearts out to each other, and discover how they have a lot more in common than they thought. Watch the trailer on YouTube.

Come early to enjoy happy hour specials starting at 6 p.m., and stay afterwards to dance onstage with retro classics from DJ MR PAUER!

Flickin’ Summer is sponsored by the Miami Downtown Development Authority.

Shortcut to Fabulous Party Dresses

ml by monique lhuiMonique Lhuillier is known for creating gorgeous wedding gowns and high-end evening wear that dawns red carpets and the figures of Hollywood royalty such as Gywneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Lopez and more. Her gowns have been out of my reach up to now because has come out with a more affordable line of cocktail  dresses and gowns aptly named ML by Monique Lhuillier. The dresses are available now at fine retailers like Saks. Check out what Saks has by clicking here. Dresses are under $500 and gowns under $700. While this is still steep, it is pretty affordable compared to some other gown designers lower end lines. I love Notte by Marchesa but those dresses are susally just under one thousand dollars!

Shortcut to Fabulous Closet Cleanout

i have nothing to wearWhen the season starts to change, it is time for you to edit your closet to make room for new trends. I definitely am one of those girls who hangs onto things forever, but a few years ago I started editing my closet before every season and I fell in love with the concept. Believe it or not, I think my style has improved since I began the big closet edits. I try and get rid of things that are out of style, do not fit or that I have not worn in a year. I make four piles: (1) sell on ebay (2) give to girlfriends (3) give to charity and (4) throw away. Once I have don’t my editing, I post stuff on ebay and tell potential buyers all the ins-and outs of the items and why I am selling (I usually say that i am doing a seasonal closet clean-out). There are some brands that sell better than others. Anthropologie usually sells well and new items with tags often sell well. I use my ebay money to buy new clothes and voila….brand new wardrobe.

There is a new book that helps you learn how to pear down, so if you feel a Becky Bloomwood moment coming one where yo don’t want to get rid of anything, you can purchase this fab new book: I Have Nothing To Wear!: A Painless 12-Step Program to Declutter Your Life So You Never Have to Say This Again!*

Shortcut to Fabulous…My friend needs your vote!!!!

immigrantSo my fab freind Jill entered a contest to win a trip to Belgium…check out the details below and while you are bored to tears at work…help a fab gal out!

Hey S2F fans!

I’m a loyal S2F reader and could use a little bit of your fabulous help! I’m a finalist in a Facebook contest that is being sponsored by the Red Star Line, the city of Antwerp and renowned fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg! I have a 1 in 10 shot at winning a trip to Belgium and a DVF shopping spree but I need YOUR help in order to do it!

Here are the fabulous details:

The contest sponsors are promoting the opening of the Red Star Line’s new museum in Antwerp. Between 1873 and 1934, the Red Star Line transported 2.6 million emigrants on a journey to a new life in North America. Although millions traveled on the Red Star Line, the image of one young girl, with a ticket in hand, has inspired a nationwide search to not only discover her identity, but bring her story to life. Ten contest finalists will be asked to symbolically convey the story of the girl’s life (in one paragraph) with “fans” voting on the best story for the grand prize.

So how can you help me win the contest?

1. Visit and “Like” this page.

2. Select the story written by Jill Barone (Essay #3), and submit your vote.

3. Voting is only open from August 9 through August 19, so please vote soon!
