Shortcut to Fabulous $20 tops

Screen shot 2012-06-30 at 4.09.34 PM

Anthropologie is having a great summer sale right now. I scored some really great summer tops for $20 each this week. My favorite is the lavender and white striped top with a cut-out back. What I love about the top is that the back hangs lower which is great for days when you want to wear white pants and comfy undergarments….you ladies know what I am talking about…some days you just feel like not having to worry about VPL. I also love that the cut-outs are placed in a strategic spot that covers my back fat and allows me to wear a normal bra. This is the perfect cut-out top for large chested gals who feel like they have to sit on the sidelines for the back cut-out trend because of they need the support of a traditional bra. You check check out the top here, but I highly recommend you head out to your local Anthropologie and see what fab tops your local store has right now.

Just when I am holding out strong on my little shopping “problem,” The Limited has to come out with a fabulous 40% off everything IN-STORE sale. I love the limited for basics like my go-to pencil skirts, blouses, belts, cardigans, etc. Right now everything in the store is 40% off…they have some really great summer dresses and of course my beloved pencil skirt. I think it is time for all of us to head on over to The Limited for some retail therapy….

Shortcut to Fabulous Beach Bag

beach tote grouping

Sometimes I like to channel my inner child and check out stuff at stores like Pottery Barn Kids and the Land of Nod. I have a few furniture pieces in my bedroom from one such store. I love that stuff is generally cheaper and has a cute whimsical feel. I found these beach totes on Pottery Barn Teen and I am officially in love with the totes, the patterns, the $40 price tag, the free monogramming and the free shipping. Click here to check them out. My fave: the black and white ikat print tote below.

Shortcut to Fabulous New York City Insider Showroom Shopping Tour

scarves

I get to do some really fab stuff with the work I do…and I had one such experience when Karen Parker O’Brian, owner of Style Room Shopping Tour Experiences invited me to check out her NYC shopping tour. I grew up around the fashion biz because my pops owns a clothing company in NYC. Because of this, it takes a lot to impress me and of course I hate paying retail. Well, Karen delivers in a big way with her Style Room shopping tours. She is a former showroom owner herself, so she has tons of contacts and creates custom tours depending on the season, group, etc.

Karen gives you a meeting point and a time and when you arrive, you are greeted with a little goody bag of trail mix and Karen, photographed below, dawning a fab smile and legs that seem to go on forever…I was standing on a step, wearing super high wedges and still look like a shrimp next to her.

What I love about her tours is that she creates an experience. Each showroom has something special to offer beyond the clothes and accessories themselves. Some offer up cupcakes and champagne, some you get to meet the designer, some you get insider access and all of them you get a deeper understanding of how the fashion business works and how much WORK it is to put out a clothing line. For me, it had the added bonus of reminiscing to my childhood days in my dad’s showroom/store at 1189 Broadway…rubber band fights with my brother in the stockroom, playing with the conveyor belt from the stockroom to the storefront, and playing in the oodles and oodles of clothes.  Fond memories…my Dad is really something special when it comes to business and he built and amazing business from the ground up…I digress, but can you tell I am a proud daughter :)

I highly recommend that you take a Style Room shopping tour the next time you are in NYC. You will love the deals, bond with fellow shopaholics and have a day filled with fun and an unforgettable experience.

*Note: I was given a complimentary tour, but the opinions here are my own.

Shortcut to Fabulous Low Cal Cocktail….while you’re out on the Town

crystal light

A fab lawyer I know shared her secret to staying slim and trim….and she is fabulously slim and trim. She keeps crystal light packets in her purse at the ready for an impromptu happy hour. She orders vodka and club soda and adds her favorite Crystal Light flavor packet to the drink, stirs and voila…a low calorie cocktail at her favorite watering hole. I am so in LOVE with this tip, I have been scheduling happy hours all over town. Who’s up for a low-cal cocktail?
