Shortcut to Fabulous Christmas Gift for the Dapper Dude in your Life

Buying gifts for guys is always so hard…especially the men in my life. So strange to grow up in a fashion family (yup…my Dad owns a clothing company) and have male family members with no fashion sense. My brother is semi-hopeless and my husband has the exact same pattern and color shirt made by fancy brand imaginable. Imagine a closet full of $300 blue checked shirts…it is really kind of creepy.

This year I am going to force a little fashion on them and get them a gift card for a Skinny Fattie tie make-over. For $30 you get this cute gift card that allows you to send in a fat tie and have it converted to a skinny one. This could be a great two-part gift. You could get the gift card and go to a Thrift store and get a fat tie or even shop in your father, brother or significant other’s closet for a fat tie. I just love this concept…plus they are tailored in Brooklyn which ups the cool factor even more! Click on the photos to check them out….

**Disclaimer. I have worked with Skinny Fatties, but I have not been compensated for this post and I really LOVE the ties.

Shortcut to Fabulous Holiday Decorating Tips

I feel like every year I am running behind on the holiday rush. No matter how hard I try to order my holiday cards in September (which seems wrong by the way) and do my Christmas shopping throughout the year, I still a race against that Christmas clock. This year I went on a family vacay after Thanksgiving and came home to a city full of decor and a home that is decidedly unfestive. I am super busy with my work getting clients ready for the holiday rush and preparing for the huge Art Basel Sample sale I am co-producing, so this year I needed to find some Shortcuts to Fabulous festive feel with in under an hour. Here are my tips for holiday decorating in a hurry on a budget:

  • Stick with a theme and simple color palette. I have had the same decor theme for years. Creme, Gold and Silver. It is clean, classic, timeless and can utilize many year round decor items. This makes shopping for holiday decor easier and gives you a little flexibility to be sloppy because monotone color themes are more forgiving.
  • Get a pre-lit artificial tree. We bought one a few years ago and it literally changed my life. I promise you wont miss stringing lights. If you are one of those people who has to have a “real tree” why not have your large tree artificial and get a small real tree…imagine how much easier clean up will be! This year, I strung large ribbon around the tree, added gold, silver and cream balls and tucked sparkly sprigs I found at a floral shop in the branches and called it a day. The tree looks great and it was done in under 45 minutes.
  • Get Festive with your Soaps. This year I am putting my bathrooms in the holiday spirit with nothing more than holiday themed fancy liquid soaps I got at Marshalls for $4.99. They are really elegant soaps and that is just enough to let the world know I am not a grinch.
  • Choose Simple Swaps. Find simple pieces in your decor that you can easily swap out for a holiday themed items. Switch your everyday candles to holiday candles that match your holiday decor color scheme, wall decor for holiday themed decor or better yet holiday photos. I frame all of our photograph holiday cards from the last five years and replace the painting over our electrical box with that collage during the holidays. You can find something to swap in every room in the house. In the kitchen find a nice ceramic holiday themed cookie jar and lay on the counter….voila…your kitchen is decorated.
  • Find simple sparkly little trees that require no decorating. I am super in love with the Confetti System Twist Open trees above from West Elm on sale for $13.99 and $19.99. They abstract spin on the classic evergreen, these glittering Confetti System Twist-Open Trees are not only decorative, they also have something to hide—untwist their tops to open, fill with candy, jewelry or other treats, then re-seal with a twist. Buy a few of these, group them on your buffet table with some candles and voila…instant Christmas.
  • Tie a bow around it. I have some wide rim wire ribbon in my holiday themed colors and I tie robin in a nice bow shape around everyday decor items I already have display to add a festive feel.

Shortcut to Fabulous Easter Basket Ideas

I have a confession to make…I am 31 and I still insist on receiving an Easter basket. Yes, I know that this makes me ridiculous, but at least I own it. I wont bore you the details of the hissy fit I threw the first year of marriage when the hubs didn’t know that a 26 year old grown women with two degrees, a job and seemingly normal mental health needs to get an Easter basket, but needless to say I send him a reminder email every year to ensure a Happy Easter :)

Whether you are purchasing items for a child, teen or a 31 year old woman perched on her pastel pink cloud, here are a few Easter basket ideas:

  • Essie Spring Color polish. How cute are these? And they come in mini sizes. I have been getting nail polish in my Easter Basket since I was about 9 and to this day it is such a treat! Make-up and lip glosses also make great basket stuffers.
  • Toy cars. I think toy cars make such a fab Easter basket stuffer and they don’t give the kiddos cavities.
  • Sunglasses. I think Kohls has such a fun selection of sunnies for kids and adults alike. I am frequently sporting LC by Lauren Conrad sunnies along with my designer bag and fancy shoes. They are on sale right now for $14.99 and no one will know you aren’t wearing designer.
  • Itunes gift card. Who doesn’t have an ipod? Who doesn’t like music? This one has universal appeal and you can pick these puppies up at your local drugstore.
  • Magazines. This is the perfect last minute Easter basket item. While you are picking up that itunes gift card, you can swing by the magazine rack and pick up a trashy gossip rag for you and something appropriate for your Easter basket recipient.

Happy Easter everyone!!

Shortcut to Fabulous Gift for the Cooks in your Life

knives This knife set is super affordable at $44.98 and comes with 6″ ceramic chef’s knife, 4.8″ ceramic slicing knife and a 3.2″ ceramic paring knife. They keep the prices low by cutting out the middle man and ceramic knives are fab because they hold up to kitchen abuse well. Shenzhen Ceramic Knives can be used by anyone for most slicing and cutting needs. These ceramic knives are made of an advanced ceramic called zirconia, the second hardest material known to man next to diamond. The material’s properties make it particularly resistant to wear and tear, which means that a ceramic blade can hold its edge much longer than a steel blade without the need for re-sharpening as often as steel knives.

I know knives don’t seem like a sexy gift, but I received a nice knife from a friend last year for my birthday and every time I am in the kitchen using it, I remember the friend and think…how thoughtful?! Bonus: When you give the knives you get yummy food :) Click here to get these knives.

Shortcut to Fabulous Cheap Thrills

I have a tradition every holiday of giving my in-laws stockings full of fun goodies and new products. I have the best time introducing everyone to fun new products or some of my old faves. It is a great inexpensive way to spread some holiday cheer. This year I plan to do something something similar for my business. I am going to send key business contacts a holiday “stocking” stuffed with my favorite It products. Here are some of the products I will be including for the Fashionista Stocking:

lash card1. Lash Cards- No joke, no exaggeration, Lash Cards changed my make-up life. I discovered them not too long ago at an event I attended. Before Lash Cards came into my life, I NEVER wore mascara. It just seemed like too much of a pain and always clumped and smudged. Now with lash cards, I can have fab lashes in about 20 seconds. You take one of the cards out and hold it on your eyelid, then apply the mascara. Not only does it prevent clumping, but it curls your lashes and makes the mascara have more impact. They are only $4.99 for a pack of ten and you can get them by clicking here.

2. Belt Loopy Belt Hole Punch- How many times have you needed another hole in your favorite belt? I have been so desperate while creating an outfit that I have pulled out a kitchen knife to make a hole…so not cute. Belt Loopy is a fab company that creates loopies to secure your belts and they also have a fab belt hole punch in the line for less than $12. Every fashionista should have a “kit” that includes products you can use to put an outfit together in a pinch…a belt hole punch should definitely be in the kit! You can get one by clicking here.

3. Little i Breath Mint Tin- Little i makes a fab sugar-free breath mints packaged in a patented tin that slides open to reveal a handy little mirror-perfect for lip gloss, teeth and makeup checks. Pop a sugar-free mint and sneak a peek without anyone suspecting. In seconds flat, you’re home free with fresh breath and a sexy smile…for under $3. You can get one by clicking here. cute_open_R_low_res

4. Popchips- I have a little obsession with these salty treats. They keep coming out with fab new flavors so I never get tired of them. I am always shocked when I meet someone who has never heard of popchips because their snack sized bags are a part of my life and I credit popchips with keeping me slim and trim despite my no-workout ways. You can get them at gourmet food stores and grocers as well as Walgreens! These really would make a fab stocking stuffer because you would be introducing loved ones to a healthy chip that tastes like an unhealthy chip! POPCHIPS_BAG_JALAPENO_v12.0001
