Miami Monday….Shortcut to Fabulous Food!`

spice_art_2010Miami Spice Month is officially in full swing! What is Miami Spice? During August and September, Miami’s top restaurants offer three-course meals (Lunch $22, Dinner $35) featuring signature dishes created by world-renowned chefs. Most of the participating restaurants have their menus up. Some of the restaurants have menus that change daily, so you need to call ahead. Most restaurants have days that they do NOT offer the spice menu, so be sure to check on the Spice website before you go. Miami Monday…Shortcut to Fabulous Greek Dining Under the Stars

mandolinTucked away in an old 1940′s house on the edge of the design district, Mandolin Aegean Bistro serves up delicious fresh food and a relaxing, yet chic atmosphere. To dine under the stars at this charming restaurant, you must plan ahead. Reservations are hard to come by, but if you call several weeks in advance or try and dine on off days or off hours you will ensure yourself a meal to remember. There is some indoor seating, but dining in their back garden is the most enchanting experience. It feels like a fairy tale world full of greek lanterns and lush ivy covered walls.

This past week, I dined with four foodie friends. We ordered a large selection of appetizers and a few of the evenings specials and ate tapas style. Here is what we ordered:

  • Grilled Sucuk- Turkish Chorizo
  • Olive oil poached leeks with carrots and dill
  • Marinated grilled octopus
  • Fried Calamari with almond tarator dip
  • Zucchini Fritter
  • Kefte- grilled beef and lamb meatballs
  • Greek Village Salad-tomato, cucumber, green pepper, red onion, olives, capers
  • Hand-cut fries with garlic yogurt
  • Two of the evening’s specials: cigar roll and vegetarian moussaka
  • Both Desserts offered for the evening: A baklava type dessert with shredded filo and a chocolate cake

Everything was delicious, but several days later my mouth is still watering at the thought of the Greek Village Salad, Zucchini fritter, Kefte and chocolate cake which was a yellow cake with almost pudding like chocolate frosting. We ordered one of each dessert to share, but the chocolate cake was so amazing, I had to defect from the evening’s food communism and order my own cake. I give this restaurant five out of five yums for its fairytale charm ambiance and delicious, extremely fresh and healthy feeling food.

Miami Monday…Shortcut to Fabulous BOGO deal at Miami Museums

The Wolfsonian exhibits an astounding collection of modern objects—both the rare and the overlooked—from the 1885 to 1945 era, demonstrating the active role design plays in motivating actions, expressing ideas, creating desires, and shaping identities.

Miami Monday…Shortcut to Fabulous Shopping Event

origI am a girl who loves a great deal. I also love shopping events. They make me feel all girly and special! Right now on Gilt City Miami, you can get tickets to the Fashionably Conscious Charity event where designer dud cast-offs from Miami’s socialites are sold at bargain basement prices with proceeds going to needy kids’ after-school and summer programs. The famed charity clothing and accessories sale that made the pages of W magazine and allows you the opportunity to score some fabulous stuff…we are talkin’ Jimmy Choo, Manolo and more! This year’s trove offers items for men, women and kids.

The first package allows admission for one to a VIP preview sale and cocktail party on May 13, plus a complimentary glass of wine at nearby Spartico Trattoria when you show your Gilt City voucher.

The second package includes entry for one just to the event’s all-day sale on May 14, plus all the above perks. So it’s shop ’til you drop with a much-needed rest in the late afternoon.

The only downside is waiting all year for the next one. Click here to visit Gilt City and check it out.
