I have a tradition every holiday of giving my in-laws stockings full of fun goodies and new products. I have the best time introducing everyone to fun new products or some of my old faves. It is a great inexpensive way to spread some holiday cheer. This year I plan to do something something similar for my business. The Lexus Fashion Workshop
Elevating the notion of recycling to an art form, Lexus challenged four of fashion’s most inventive designers to rethink their notions of automotive design. Using some of the more than 2,000 individual parts of a completely dismantled Lexus CT hybrid, a vehicle that is 90 percent recyclable, the designers created fashionable works of art as part of The Lexus Fashion Workshop. From crank bearings to exhaust gaskets, the designers took on the challenge with verve, turning some of the best engineered auto parts into innovative fashion accessories – all while driving home the beauty of recycling.

The four pieces, listed below, will be highlighted in a six-page advertisement in the January 2012 issue of Vogue, and will be sold via silent auction during the Vogue Lounge, with proceeds benefiting the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), a not-for-profit trade association representing more than 400 of America’s foremost womenswear, menswear, jewelry, and accessory designers.
· “Environmental Crown of Virtue” – A truly head-turning piece designed by Moss Lipow using a transmission starter and exhaust manifold gasket.
· “The Valve Collection” – Designed by jewelry creator Eddie Borgo using valve lifters, crank bearings and hose clamps.
· “Nomadic Sanctuary” – A sleek trench coat designed by John Patrick, featuring floor mats made from plant-based plastic, sustainable sound dampening material, wire harness, leather seat covers and cargo covers.
· “The Luna Shoe” – Created by Alejandro Inglemo using armrest leather trim and clear plastic tubing.

Keds at Opening Ceremony

Every year Art Basel comes into town and the design district and beach become intolerably busy and everyone clamors for tickets to the hottest shows. There are a few more low key art shows connected to Art Basel for the early bird who wants to avoid the crowds…

1. Seven Miami- A minifair that  was Inspired by the prevailing need for a more intimate, personal way to engage visitors during the Miami fair week, the members of SEVEN come together to create an environment where artworks may be experienced in a curated context and interested parties can have a substantial, quality interaction with the dealers. The emphasis on cooperation rather than competition relates to the founding days of these established, long-running galleries, which despite over 120 years of combined experience, remain true to the non-conformist, adventurous nature of their beginnings in the New York and London art worlds.

2. Scope Miami- The art show that has established its name by curating cutting-edge contemporary art from around the world proudly returns to Miami for its eleventh year. thEY also show in New York and Basel, Switzerland. Cementing its future with an 80,000 square foot pavilion across the street from Art Miami, SCOPE Miami’s high-profile venue is centrally located in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District.
