Shortcut to Fabulous Figure Friendly Sweet Treats

ca-hc-mc

I am a cupcake and all-things-sweet addict. There. I said it. They say admitting you have a problem is the first step toward recovery, but since there are no cupcakes anonymous meetinsg in my city, I think I will be falling off the wagon in about 45 minutes (I have a meeting in Starbucks and they have those fun cake pops there…yes I plan my sweet fixes). Unfortunately, the more stressed I get, the more cupcakes and sweet treats I need and now I can’t even begin to zip up my skinny jeans…right before bikini season…ahhhhh!!!! So, I am have been on a search for some sweet treats that will satisfy my cravings, but reduce my sizable bum. I have three favorites and here they are in no particular order:

1. Skinny Cow Heavenly Crisp. Delicate wafers layered with delicious chocolate crème and covered in a milk chocolatey coating. These things are freakin’ fabulous. I love ‘em and buy them by the box. You can find them in the candy aisle in the grocery store. Each bar weighs in at 110 calories. I don’t need a regular chocolate bar when I have these…this is the closest thing I’ve come to kicking my Kit Kat-a-day habit.

2. Diana’s Baby Bananas in dark chocolate. These frozen mini bananas are dipped in dark chocolate and placed on a stick making the most decadent frozen treat.Who doesn’t love eating something on a stick (I just got a craving for a corndog and it is only 7 in the morning…eeek..I have a problem..but I digress). Weighing in at 130 calories, this wont break the calorie bank. Plus, you are getting a serving of fruits and veggies out of the banana! Click here to see what stores in your area carry Diana’s Bananas.

3. Dark Chocolate Pomegranate VitaBrownies. I know the name sounds a little crazy, but they are delish. VitaBrownies have real cocoa, pomegranate, whole wheat & organic sugar. Natural Brownies are 100 calories, low fat with 6g fiber. The fiber is what really makes these things special because they fake out the weight watcher points system!! Click here to get them.

Shortcut to Fabulous Swarovski Splurge

lips bangle

I know you love my budget posts. I know that the idea of paying $180 for a bracelet that is not vintage, Chanel or dripping in Gold is about as appealing as a make-out session with Sammy from the Shahs of Sunset, but ladies this is Swarovski. Now, normally my splurges are limited to classic pieces that will stand the test of time, but I think this bracelet has the potential to become an iconic vintage piece in 15 years. It is $180 smackers (no pun intended…who I am kidding…of course I think I am adorable for coming up with this cute quip) and you can get it here.

Shortcut to Fabulous New Nail Trend

ciate_caviar_manicure_pink

Textured 3-D nails is the new spring nail trend. Dipping wet nails in micro-beads will get the look, but starting Wednesday, you can buy a fab kit from Sephora that will get you a multi-dimensional nail look with ease. The kit is called Caviar Nails and it is made by a British company called Ciate and sells for $25. It comes with everything you need for a fun manicure, complete with a tray to catch excess beads and funnel to put unused beads back in the container.

I have a strange feeling these kits are going to sell out fast once available stateside (they are sold out on the Ciate website online), so get your alarm clock ready and high-tail it to Sephora on April 10th!

Miami Monday…Shortcut to Fabulous Fashion and Art

district factory

Two fab events this week that happen to both be hosted by two fab friends of mine who have two fab blogs.

Up first, Ginger Harris of Electric Blogarella and Annie Vazquez of The Fashion Poet will be hosting an Alexis Bittar appearance at  the Bal Habour Neiman Marcus from 2 pm to  4 pm. I know the timing isn’t exactly perfect for a working gal, but fake some female problems and high tail it over for a chance to win a $250 gift card.

Annie has a supercharged weekend ahead because the Fashion Poet is hosting another event this Saturday  as a nod to Andy Warhol’s famed studio “The Factory”, The District Factory, an evening shopping event & mash-up. Items available for sale include art, jewelry, apparel, reconstructed vintage and more. Location: 3900 NE 1st Avenue from 7 to 10 pm during Art Walk.

Shortcut to Fabulous Appearance on Not So Soccer Mom Radio

NSSM-411

I love a good radio show. Talk radio can really make your day go by faster and somehow it seems so much more austere and cerebral than traditional music stations…though I must confess I listen to fashion, beauty and travel talk radio, but hey I am improving my IQ in the chic department. There is a fab online radio network called Not So Soccer Mom. You don’t have to be a mom or even like soccer to enjoy the fab shows they have. They have a whole line-up of shows that air “live” at 1 pm every ay of the work-week. If you miss the live show, you can catch up later. They have really amazing guests including celebs and notables. Some of the celebs that have been on the show include: Ian Ziering from 90210, Melissa Gorga from RHONJ and many cast members from the Real Housewives of Orange County. Monday at 1 pm EST yours truly will be a guest on Jills Beautcamp Show. Tune in Monday to hear me chat. They talk about all kinds of stuff and there is a show for every taste. Click here to check out the shows, the line-up and tune in!

Shortcut to Fabulous “I want to Go with Oh to Rome”

IMG_1602

Rome is one of the loveliest utterly chaotic cities in the world. Obviously, there are ancient Roman ruins to see, the center of the Catholic universe and lots of gelato, but the Rome I love is the Rome you miss if you spend all your time on a hop-on-hop-off bus tour. When I go with Oh to Rome I will uncover even more off-the-beaten path things to do, see, eat and shop! You can Go with Oh too and with some extra dolce vita by entering to win one of their fab prizes: luggage, an ipad, a camera or 500 Euro of Go with Oh accomodation. Click here to get the skinny on this fab contest and enter to win.

The Five things I will do in Rome when I go with Oh are:

5. Watch my 70 Euro Italian leather handbag be crafted right in front of my eyes at Il Gancio. It is located on Via del Seminario 82-83. Their smaller bags are suprising affordable and they actually make bags in the shop. They have some really cute cross body bags that are fabulous quality, great for travel and totally on-trend.

4. Find a great spot to have drinks with a view. There is nothing better than a glass of bubbly and a great view…well except for perhaps designer shoes or handbags 70% off. I digress. I want to find the best place to have a glass of prosecco. Click here to find a list of Rome rooftop cafes and bars.

3. Create my own Pizza Crawl. Who needs a pub crawl when you could create a pizza crawl. If I Go with Oh I will scour the city and create a self-guided pizza crawl for all of you lovely readers.

2. Stroll the Streets and Soak in the real Rome. Many say the best museum in Rome is Rome itself and I couldn’t agree more. Getting lost in the streets is where you make the best discoveries…find the best shops, discover sumptuous gelato and uncover a quiet piazza.

1. Practice saying “Mama Mia in my Pizzeria” in one of Rome’s cooking classes. Italian food is undoubtedly the most universally appealing foods in the US. Even if you can’t cook a five course meal or know how to saute something, you  know how to make some pasta. Well, what could be cooler than saying you learned to cook Italian food in Rome. Who knows where that could lead…perhaps a cooking show on the food network…I mean Giada De Laurentiis is pretty and all….and she cooks great…and she is actually a chef…but after I take my Roman cooking class she is going to have to really step it up a notch if she wants to compete with me! Or maybe, I can just pretend I am as gorgeous, thin and smooth as Giada and film some funny bits in the cooking class to share with you ;) Click here for a Roman cooking class.

Shortcut to Fabulous Easter Basket Ideas

easter_baskets_holiday_esl_students

I have a confession to make…I am 31 and I still insist on receiving an Easter basket. Yes, I know that this makes me ridiculous, but at least I own it. I wont bore you the details of the hissy fit I threw the first year of marriage when the hubs didn’t know that a 26 year old grown women with two degrees, a job and seemingly normal mental health needs to get an Easter basket, but needless to say I send him a reminder email every year to ensure a Happy Easter :)

Whether you are purchasing items for a child, teen or a 31 year old woman perched on her pastel pink cloud, here are a few Easter basket ideas:

  • Essie Spring Color polish. How cute are these? And they come in mini sizes. I have been getting nail polish in my Easter Basket since I was about 9 and to this day it is such a treat! Make-up and lip glosses also make great basket stuffers.
  • Toy cars. I think toy cars make such a fab Easter basket stuffer and they don’t give the kiddos cavities.
  • Sunglasses. I think Kohls has such a fun selection of sunnies for kids and adults alike. I am frequently sporting LC by Lauren Conrad sunnies along with my designer bag and fancy shoes. They are on sale right now for $14.99 and no one will know you aren’t wearing designer.
  • Itunes gift card. Who doesn’t have an ipod? Who doesn’t like music? This one has universal appeal and you can pick these puppies up at your local drugstore.
  • Magazines. This is the perfect last minute Easter basket item. While you are picking up that itunes gift card, you can swing by the magazine rack and pick up a trashy gossip rag for you and something appropriate for your Easter basket recipient.

Happy Easter everyone!!
